Town Meeting · Meeting of May 4, 2026
Marblehead Town Meeting votes 1,227-159 to send a tiered override to the June ballot. Finance Committee Chair Alec Goolsbee said the town closed a $7.7 million fiscal 2027 deficit through $2.4 million in cuts, a new $2.2 million curbside trash fee and a one-time $1.5 million school tuition prepayment, eliminating 43.5 positions townwide. Select Board Chair Dan Fox said a no vote means the cuts "will go into effect July 1," while a yes sends voters three funding tiers worth roughly $9 million to $15 million over three years.
Resident Jack Buba separately pressed school officials over $2.6 million in school-roof bid savings: "By the end it was all gone." Town Meeting also approved, 881-82, a 3A zoning overlay for up to 897 housing units at the Tedesco golf course and Broughton Road, and banned cryptocurrency ATMs townwide.
