Healey Signs Protect Act To Shield Residents From ICE

Gov. Maura Healey signed the Protect Act this week, calling it the nation's strongest shield against ICE enforcement, a story Marblehead Patch carried as its top item Thursday. Locally, Abbot Public Library rolled four new programs onto its late-August calendar, from a Revolutionary War history talk to a kids' writing workshop tied to the America 250 anniversary.

Abbot Public Library, 235 Pleasant St., has four new offerings on the books for late August. On Aug. 25 at 3 p.m., the library hosts a drop-in tech help session, "All Computers Great and Small." A day later, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m., a talk titled "Revolutionary Leader: Colonel John Glover and His Crucial Leadership in 1776" looks at the Marblehead mariner-turned-general's role in the Revolution.

The library follows with a "Shell Builders Workshop" alongside Salem Sound Coastwatch on Aug. 28 at 2:45 p.m., and closes the month Aug. 29 with an America 250 writing workshop for kids marking the run-up to the nation's 250th anniversary.
